Diboll High School Student Recognized for Work Supporting Diboll Police Department Accreditation

A Diboll High School student is being recognized for craftsmanship, service, and the kind of real-world impact that reaches far beyond the classroom.
At yesterday’s Diboll City Council meeting, Diboll FFA Ag Mechanics student Matthew Hooks was publicly recognized for outstanding work completed in partnership with the Diboll Police Department.
According to a formal Letter of Recognition presented by the department, Matthew played an important role in designing and building steel doors for the police department’s evidence room and hazardous materials storage area while working alongside his teacher, Mr. Eric Crager. His work directly supported improvements needed as the department moved into compliance with best practices required through the Texas Police Chiefs Association Accreditation Program.
Police leadership noted that Matthew’s skill, dedication, and professionalism helped accelerate important evidence and property procedure improvements—work that otherwise would have taken much longer to complete. The letter also praised his responsibility, teamwork, and community spirit, describing his contribution as exceptional and deeply appreciated.
The impact of that work is now visible in another meaningful way: Diboll police officers are wearing a new bar on their uniforms representing their Texas Police Chiefs Association Accreditation—an achievement that reflects high standards, professionalism, and community trust.
This moment also highlights the power of student learning connected to authentic community needs.
A special thank you goes to Mr. Eric Crager, whose vision for agricultural mechanics instruction continues to create opportunities for students to serve in meaningful ways. His leadership reflects a strong belief not only in what students can build, but in how their skills can strengthen the community around them.
Matthew’s recognition is a reminder that at Diboll ISD, students are not simply preparing for the future—they are already making a difference today.
The quality of his work speaks for itself, and our district is proud to celebrate both the craftsmanship and character behind it.
