DIBOLL, TX — While students enjoy a well-earned summer break, dedicated educators across Diboll ISD have remained hard at work, engaging in a focused day of curriculum collaboration designed to lay the foundation for long-term student success.
This week, teachers from every campus and across all core content areas—from Pre-K to high school—gathered to identify and align priority standards for the upcoming academic year. This essential work ensures that instruction across grade levels is intentional, cohesive, and focused on the most critical learning goals.
Dr. Igor Gusyakov, Superintendent of Schools, praised the team’s commitment: “I am proud of our team for digging in over the summer to do the hard work that makes a real difference. Aligning our priorities today means stronger outcomes for kids tomorrow.”
Though classrooms may be quiet, the energy and passion behind Diboll ISD’s commitment to academic excellence are stronger than ever. Every sticky note, highlighter, and collaborative conversation is a step toward delivering the highest quality education for all Lumberjack learners.

What are Priority Standards?
Priority standards are the essential skills and concepts students must master to succeed in the next grade level and beyond. These standards serve as the cornerstone of rigorous curriculum, targeted assessment, and high-impact instruction.
“Thank you to the group of math teachers...” said Olivia Fant, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. “They spent several hours studying their TEKS and working together to finalize what’s most important.”
In addition to math, teachers in English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR), as well as science, held in-depth vertical alignment discussions to ensure consistency and continuity across grade levels. “It was exciting to hear the vertical alignment conversations between our AMAZING groups,” Fant added.
Why It Matters
By clearly identifying priority standards, the district ensures:
Instructional focus on what matters most
Teachers across all campuses are aligned in their efforts
Students benefit from a more direct and purposeful path to academic and life success
